Monocacy Jazz Quartet

Ali Afrookteh started his musical education studying classical clarinet at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. He later switched to saxophone and guitar playing in multiple rock, soul and rhythm and blues bands in the Baltimore/Washington area. After an extended hiatus pursuing a medical career, he returned to the music scene in 2000 playing jazz saxophone and flute. He continues to actively practice internal and sports medicine in Frederick.

Mark Lysher has been playing music professionally in the Baltimore/Washington area for the past 40 years. As a free lance bass player, Mark has played in every imaginable musical situation; from rock and roll in local bars to High Society weddings to backing national head-liners. Mark studied Instrumental Performance and Composition at Towson State University, Berklee College of Music in Boston and Peabody Conservatory. For the past 22 years, he and his wife Marcia have made their home in Buckeystown.

Paul Wilson has been playing drums professionally since age 15. He was the drummer for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in the early 1970s and has worked in a wide variety of bands and styles including small jazz groups, big band jazz, and rock and soul groups. He has played at Madison Square Garden, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall in Boston, Los Angeles Coliseum and the London Palladium. He has been featured at Caesar's Palace and the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas. He has also played on many national radio and television commercials through the Clean Cuts recording studio in Baltimore. In addition to his musical career, Paul is a visual artist and enjoys a national reputation with critical acclaim for his work. He resides in Frederick.

Matthew Albright is a graduate of Shepard University with his Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance, Piano Pedagogy and Instrumental and Choral Music Education. He is currently the Organist and Choir Director at First Christian Church of Hagerstown as well as the Vocal Director of the Advanced Music Studies Magnet High School in Frederick County. Matt has played at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and has been a featured organist in the Tri-State area as well as in the Walls of the Vatican. Currently he is finishing his Master's Degree in Church Music at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. He resides in Hagerstown.
