Kerensa Gray

Come enjoy music by Kerensa Gray!

20th Annual Billie Holiday Vocal Competition winner Kerensa Gray is often compared to the likes of jazz royalty - Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald and contemporaries such as Diana Krall. She has shared the stage with artists such as Stellar Award Winner Isaiah Thomas and opened for Grammy and Dove award winners CeCe Winans and Vickie Winans.

Finding her voice first in string studies as a gifted violin student, Kerensa began working with Frostburg State University orchestra while still attending middle school. These early years fostered an unquenchable love for music and encouraged a budding artist to discover the music of her own soul. As a gifted songwriter, this dynamic vocalist brings fresh insight and infectious energy to her approach of beloved classics and a transparency in her songwriting that speaks to that for which we all yearn - truth without compromise. Kerensa’s music finds balance in her ability to skilfully interweave melodies of jazz, blues and folk music into a sound that is undeniably and uniquely her while her talent as a gifted vocalist unearths yet unseen perspectives into the standards that are the soundtracks to our lives.

Kerensa is excited to offer her current CD project "Take Me In" in cooperation with Nashville, TN based Creative Soul Jazz and producer Eric Copeland. And don’t forget to check out here 2012 offering "Bliss" featuring session legends Gary Lunn on bass and Tom Hemby on guitar. For more information about Kerensa Gray Jazz, "Take Me In", or for booking please visit www.kerensagray.com or www.kgjazz.com or email kerensa@kerensagray.com

Andrew O'Day

Andrew O'Day

An open hand reaching into your soul and holding your heart may best describe the way Andrew has spliced broken words of emotion. The lyrical content of his original writings could easily be listened to through a mono-tone metal box, hanging off the side of the driver’s door window. Although he has spent many years as a young musician, collaborating and teaming with others that are equally motivated to find themselves in their spiritual quest for the perfect sound of a strumming heartbeat, the time has come. He is ready to share his acoustic guitar and sage, soulful sound....

In the ear to eye experience, you will first be drawn in by the un-orthodox style by which Andrew handles his guitar. This is not on purpose. When Andrew was a young child, his older brother introduced him to the acoustic guitar, positioning it as any right-hander would while showing him how to hold it. Andrew, a natural lefty, just flipped the guitar around and began to explore his musicality without any formal instruction. This can only be a testament to the strong musical family lineage, passed down from generation to generation. So, in accordance with Darwin’s theory of survival, he has made it. His audience will be enticed by his versatility— soulful constructions of old R&B sounds that some may not have thought possible by acoustic guitar, fun country cover songs that lure you into a crowd singing chorus.....

Andrew’s recent acoustic performances have no doubt proven which direction he is going as an artist and vocalist. Today, you may find him playing locally in the Northern Virginia area, chasing down open-mic nights, small coffee shops and other venues that offer him opportunities to unload some new soulful sound right at your table.

IlyAIMY Trio

Percussive, rhythmically driven guitar that freely composites fingerpicking, classical melodies, running bass lines, harmonics, & hard-charging chords. [Rob's] vocals are needled & gaunt, with the jittery energy of a dockyard stray on speed ... Heather generally provides the honey for rob’s bitterroot in her harmonies, but her voice can as easily rise to an alleycat wail worthy of P.J. Harvey. The girl can flat-out sing just about anything.

“A bone-rattling acoustic act... with driving lyrical force [and] male/female harmonies that lock in, lift, drop and pull ... And then they slow it down and rip you open.”

Violins of Baltimore

Inspired by the music of Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and other jazz greats of the 20‘s, 30‘s and 40‘s, the Violins of Baltimore perform innovative arrangements that highlight violins and strings in place of horns, piano, and other instruments heard more commonly in jazz. This unique ensemble brings new life to old standards, while also shedding light on old forgotten gems in the repertoire of American and French jazz. It’s core members, Matt Andrews and Natalia Merezhuk, are both established violinsts that can be found performing regularly in around Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia in various groups and orchestras.
